Semi-Bluff - A concept of poker strategy What is a semi-bluff ?A semi-bluff is a bet/raise with a hand which is likely not to be the best hand now, but which can make an oppenent fold or improve on the next street(s). You normally use a semi-bluff with a flush or a straight draw, or second or third pair with a good kicker, or two overcards. You use the semi-bluff normally when only one or two oppenents are still in the hand.
Advantages of a semi-bluff- your remaining opponents may fold and you win the pot right now ( = fold equity )
- your opponents call and you improve your draw to the winning hand on the next street
- this is an aggressive move and may improve your table image to tight-aggressive
- you get extra bets in the pot when your draw fullfills
Disadvantages of a semi-bluff- one of your opponents may raise or reraise you with a strong hand which he tried to slowplay
- you maybe don't improve your hand on the turn or the river
